News : Dawn of Retribution post album update

By on July 19, 2009

Geelong band Dawn of Retributionhave posted an update on their recording sessions in Tasmania with leading Aussie metal guirarist/producer Joe Haley.

“Hello everyone!! Chris from Dawn here. Just thought I would take the time to let you all know where we are at with the album recording sessions and how its all shaping up. Its July 19 today and Bennett and I are just relaxing at the hostel in Tassie after finishing up on the guitar tracking today before we head home on Tuesday. Might take the day tomorrow to head in and check out the brewery and some of the beautiful nature shit around this place too since we ended up with a spare day. Nice!

So the story up until now…. well drums were completed at Mad Cat Sounds in Oakleigh under the watchful eye of Mr. Jack Setton last month, and the results were impressive. It took us 2 days to complete all the drums for the 8 tracks that will make up the full length release, and Vanderz was pretty well on his game during the sessions, playing a lot of the material at some pretty fast tempos and making guitar tracking all that much harder!

Bennett and I had a month to prepare all our guitar parts, finish working on our solos and any other ideas we wanted for production before we got started and we made the most of it. Regardless of this, a lot of the stuff that we ended up laying down was never planned and changed on the spot. Haha. Always the way though.

We ended up coming down to Tassie and recording guitars at The Crawlspace in Hobart with Joe Haley, the guitar freak from Tassie death metal monsters Psycroptic, and we are EXTREMELY happy with the results we’ve ended up with today. Joe is a pleasure to work with, easy to sit in a room for 8-9hrs a day with and comes up with some amazing ideas for guitar tracking. I would imagine we will definitely be working with him again in future. He will also be playing a couple of guest solos on the final product – fucking BALL TEARING facemelters as well I can tell you – so be sure to check those out once we release the record if for no other reason than to hear Joe play a guitar solo since we don’t get to hear him play them in Psycroptic much! Haha.

Next up will be bass and vocals being recorded back home, then the final recorded product is off to Sweden for mixing and mastering with Will Blackmon from Swedish grind band Gadget. Getting excited now at what we will end up with, so I’m gonna go get a beer and relax… our work is done here.

Next show is at the Barwon Club in Geelong on August 22 with Dreadnaught, Frankenbok, Tenth Dan and Teramaze so be sure to come along and check out the unofficial preview of a lot of the material from the upcoming album.”
