News : Download Festival Australia confirmed!

By on November 3, 2017

The Download Festival in Australia has officially been confirmed. After many months of speculation and rumours, lead promotion company Live Nation Australia confirmed the festival is a go with the unveiling of the official Download Festival Australia website on Friday, 3rd November.

While there isn’t much to go by on the website at the moment, apart from an auspicious countdown leading to the line-up announcement. We can confirm that the festival will be held in Melbourne on Saturday, 24th March 2018 at Flemington Racecourse (which can hold over 25,000 patrons). In addition, there will be 4 stages, 29 bands from both home and abroad, licensed and +18 bar areas. We suspect this means a licensed bar in the stage area, but nothing can be confirmed or denied at this point in time. The website also notes a food fare, market stalls, art installations and plenty more awesome stuff to come.

The festival is led by Live Nation Australia in conjunction with Unified who are the champions of the long-running Unify: A Heavy Music Gathering. They’re also joined by Secret Sounds, who are the promoters behind the Falls Festival and Splendour In The Grass. Looks like we’re in safe and capable hands, everyone!

In a recent interview with triple J, Download Australia event producer Nigel Meldar said there will be a strong focus on Australian heavy music too.

“We have 28 bands in total; 1/3 of those are Australian.”

“Oz heavy acts are drawing a lot of people both here and overseas, so we are happy to be able to showcase that strength.”

You can read the interview here. Find out more about upcoming Download Australia announcements by subscribing to the official Download Australia Facebook page here.

We strongly urge you sign up to the mailing list on the official website so you don’t miss out on all the awesome announcements coming soon.
