Articles : Metal Obsession – European Summer Festival Preview (Headbanger’s Open Air)
Headbanger’s Open Air has been dubbed as one of the biggest garden party’s of the world. The festival has been running yearly since 1998 on a rural farm some 40km from Hamburg, Germany, where each year the organiser opens his garden gates for the metal hordes of the world to partake in three days of classic and traditional metal music.
The festival isn’t as big as your Metal Days, Wacken Open Air or Bloodstock counterparts, but still packs a punch when it comes to giving metalheads a great mixture of good music over three days. The year’s lineup features; Loudness, Sanctuary, Pretty Maids, Paragon, Stormwarrior and Australia’s, Silent Knight, among others.

The main event of the festival is held in the inner yard of the farm and the surrounding fields serve as the campgrounds. The usual beer, bbq and metal markets are in abundance much like every other German metal festival.
Getting to Headbanger’s Open Air is pretty straight forward. Public transport is plentiful to the region from Hamburg, and if you’re going with a large group of friends in a car you can take the autobahn.
Tickets to Headbanger’s Open Air are available from the official Headbanger’s website and Metaltix.com. A three day festival ticket is 54 € which roughly sets you back 80 Australian dollarydoos which also includes camping into the total ticket price.
Headbanger’s Open Air 2017 kicks off on July 27th and runs until July 29th. For more information, head to the official Headbanger’s Open Air website.
