News : Enlightened by Darkness call it a day
North Queensland Thrash Metal band Enlightened by Darkness have announced that they are no more. After 4 years in the Australian scene, and with a recently hailed full length release, the band will part ways due to artistic differences.
Enlightened by Darkness has one remaining show scheduled, that being an appearence at the 4th annual festival ‘Rockfest’ to be held at the Rockhampton Music Bowl on April 5th.
Vocalist for the band, Hayden Mitton, commented on the break up:
“Well, although we have only recently got back into the swing of playing shows again in 2008 we’ve decided that the time has come to call it a day for EBD. The show at Rockfest 2008 will be our last all ages show, and we may organise a final 18+ show or two as well.
Basically, EBD has been torn in a number of directions for quite some time. Nadir, Myself and Ashley (Wombat) have been the core writers of the music in EBD, and have felt a friction over the last 6 months or so in the conflicting directions we wish to head. I am sure you can hear this on “Buried Beneath” due to the vast number of directions you can hear between the songs. We always set out to combine a huge number of influences and write the best and most unique music we can, unfortunately it doesn’t seem as though we are on the same page anymore and some of the “fire” between us has gone.
Brett, Nadir and Ashley will continue to be create music in their new un-named Black/Prog Thrash Metal Band (Trust me, this music is BRUTAL and plain AWESOME) and I have begun programming some drums for my new project which will involve Alex on Bass (and possibly also Brett on live drums when it gets to that point).
I really hope to see you at the last shows we do and make them some shows to remember. Who knows, maybe in 6 months or a year we may get back into it and get the guns blazing again. Maybe not. Either way cheers and beers for the ride and the support, I personally have put my heart and soul into EBD since I joined in 2005 and while I am heartbroken that it is ending I’m also excited about the possibilities ahead of me. Anyone who has come to a show, bought a shirt, bought a cd, travelled from another town (or from another state) to see us I sincerely thank you.“
