Album Reviews : Disturbed – Indestructible

By on June 16, 2008

Disturbed started from humble beginning nearly a decade ago with their debut release “The Sickness”, and now have become a powerhouse in the mainstream metal world with multi platinum selling releases. The band has forged into the scene with numerous albums, both live and studio recordings and have a legion of fans to their already well known sound and style in the new age metal world.

The latest album, “Indestructible” showcases the bands best work thus far in their career, with memorable riffs, strong lyrics, and the all to familiar vocals of David Draiman, who speaks on both the political and social values of the world we live in today. The lyrics range from a plethora of political and social issues which seem to weigh heavy on the world today, from troubles in the middle east, to suicide and drug abuse.

The album also shows us a side of the band which we have never seen before, with the album being produced entirely by the band themselves, and the result is memorable one. Even though the band produced the album, the all to familiar sound of Disturbed is still there, with added tweaks and chunky riffs to get the blood pumping.

The album seems to be more aggressive and full on with there attack to the listeners ears then the previous releases. David Draiman has once again perfected his art of rapid fire and animalistic vocals, which will ring true to the fans who know all to well the nostalgia of their debut release, “The Sickness”.

Indestructible seems to sway from both melodic to heavy riffs in an instant which keeps the bloody pumping and the adrenaline high. Dan Donegan offers a simple, yet effective solo count through the whole album which boasts the ever growing new sound of the band, while Mike Wengren showcases a sonic assault on the senses with his blistering drum work.

Indestructible in a sense makes the listener feel as if he or she cannot be touched by anyone, hence the title “Indestructible”. Even though I have not listened to Disturbed since their first release and don’t consider myself a massive fan, I could easily just put this in my CD player and head band along to it. It’s a very simple, yet dominating album which will be well suited to the young metal listeners of today. 7/10
