News : Ill Omen reform, free EP download

By on August 3, 2011

Melbourne progressive death metallers Ill Omen are back, reforming after disbanding back in May 2011, and we figured who better to explain the whole situation than the band, which you can read below.

For those that already know the juicy info, here is a handy link to a free download of the band’s debut seven track EP The Truth, which includes a couple of rerecorded tracks from their 2009 demo that received quite a favourable review on this very site. And for something a bit newer, there is a demo recording of an unreleased track and more over at their official Facebook page.

“In mid May 2011, Jake Hamilton left Ill Omen. He cited creative differences as the main reason in his decision to leave the band. The rest of the band (Jess, Jackson and Braidy) decided that the four friends started the band to play music as the four friends, and when one has left, it wasn’t the same. Jess, Jackson and Braidy had plans to start a new band with a new drummer.

In early July, Jake contacted Jackson and let him know that he regretted his decision to leave the band and he would like to start Ill Omen up again. Jess, Jackson and Braidy agreed with the offer, and held their first practice as the reformed Ill Omen on the 31st of July 2011, the same day the band enlisted Dylan Lee to take car of live samples. Ill Omen was offered to apply to play the Melton Battle of the Bands, and all members agreed that there is no better way to restart their musical career in Ill Omen than to play a home town show. To keep the fans interested, the band uploaded a demo version of an unreleased song, Breaking The Covenant part 1.

The next step for Ill Omen is to record a cover EP, with one song chosen by each studio band member, and an entirely new song as a bonus track. After this cover EP is out and circulating, the band will buckle down and write for their next release.”
