“Music is universal, GLOBAL METAL goes BEYOND!” Andrew Haug / Full Metal Racket – Triple J Radio

In Global Metal, directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn set out to discover how the world¹s most maligned musical genre heavy metal has impacted cultures across the globe. In this sequel to 2005¹s hit Metal A Headbanger¹s Journey, the filmmakers take their journey of discovery into Asia, South America and the Middle East showing how these regions have taken the musical influences of the West and created sounds uniquely their own, as they struggle to have their voices heard in oppressive societies.

Global Metal fuses real concert footage from metal legends with gritty urban sounds from the world¹s most unexpected places; from Indonesian Death Metal to Chinese Black Metal to Iranian Thrash Metal, Global Metal reveals a worldwide community of metal heads who aren¹t just absorbing metal, they’re transforming it.

Not just for fans of metal, Global Metal is for anyone interested in how a passionate subculture can spread, mutate and evolve on today¹s international stage. It is for anyone interested in how metal fans view music as a uniting power against the forces of misinterpreted religion, political upheaval and capitalist greed.
