Album Reviews : The Eternal – Under a New Sun (single)

With the revelation that was Kartika under their belts, The Eternal have not been sitting idle. With only months to go until the release of their new album, Under a New Sun, metalobsession was honoured to get in early with a look at the new direction being taken by The Eternal with their yet to be released title track single.

The bands own description of themselves as ‘dark rock’ pretty much sums up the new style as far as we can tell from the single. Taking another step away from their doomy roots, the new single feels more stripped back and aggressive as they convert to life as a three piece.

At it’s heart is still the brilliant song writing we’ve come to expect from mastermind Mark Kelson, with catchy choruses and riffs, but reinventing themselves once more, this time with the guidance of The Tea Party’s Jeff Martin as producer.

The eastern inspired sounds that set Kartika apart are now at the forefront of their music, and going by the sampler now on their website, Under a New Sun should be a worthy follow-up to Kartika.

Also appearing on the single is a remixed version of Cast in Stone off the upcoming album, as well as an epic live version of Blood from their performance at the East Brunswick Club back in September.
