News : The end of Soundwave in Adelaide?

By on May 10, 2010

Those of you using Twitter may have already seen the comments, but for those of you who don’t use it, ‘soundwave2010’ (the account of AJ, a festival organiser) recently tweeted “As of this morning, it looks highly likely that we can no longer proceed with Soundwave in Adelaide”.

Apparently this is due to huge price hikes, thanks to Adelaide City Council. The council has decided to apply the same rent charges to all of the set-up (and down) days that they do for the actual show day, as well as take a percentage of every ticket sold. According to AJ, this means a rent increase of 1100%, with the ticket charges on top of that.

So unless any dramatic changes happen in the near future, Soundwave in Adelaide may be no more.
