News : Victorian extreme metallers Requiem announce debut album details
Ballarat based extreme metal outfit Requiem have announced details of their forthcoming debut album, ‘And The Earth Grew Dark’. The album was recorded throughout June and August last year with the band teaming up with Melbourne based producer Chris Themelco at Monolith Studios, and mastered at The Panic Room in Sweden by Thomas ‘Plec’ Johansson, who has worked with the likes of Watain, Scar Symmetry and Elm Street.
The band comments on the album’s concept.
A concept album, ‘And The Earth Grew Dark’ tells the story of a mankind abandoned by their God, leaving them to atone for their sins while their world around them gradually decays, leaving them only a slither of hope for salvation. The album will be released digitally and physically on April 6th, to coincide with our performance at Stormrider Festival in Perth the following day. We will also be releasing the debut single from the album, ‘Before Perdition Calls’, on March 5th, so keep an ear out for your first taste of the album!
We pushed ourselves to the limits when writing this album, blending Black, Death, Thrash and Melodic Metal in a way that can only be described as the Requiem sound. From crushing riffs, soaring leads, screeching vocals and ferocious blast beats, this album has it all. We took very careful consideration in making each track sound unique and individual, delivering something different in every song as the album progresses.
The album artwork was created by Aaryn Dunks (The Tigersnake) also plays a huge role in bringing this vision to life, portraying the emptiness and disparity featured throughout the story of the album.
