News : Contrive announce major band changes + new album details
Melbourne metallers Contrive have been a little quiet of late. However, that is all about to change with the recently announced news from identical brothers, Andrew and Paul Haug returning with not only a new album, but also now officially a ‘2-piece” band. The announcement was dropped via the band’s office Facebook page.
In addition, long time bassist, Tim Stahlmann has decided to stand down from band duties due to family commitments, but the brother’s Haug have reassured their fans that Tim’s base lines will be heard on the band’s forthcoming new album due for release later this year.
Contrive are currently putting the finishing touches on the new album titled Slow Dissolve. The album has been mixed by Mike and Dave Young from Young Bros Productions. Dave Young is also the guitarist The Devin Townsend Band.
Contrive drummer and national radio presenter, Andrew Haug shares his thoughts.
This new record has definitely been a rollercoaster ride of sorts which began back in May 2015. Shortly after tracking drums, Paul & I lost our father suddenly, which has been devastating beyond measure. During this time Tim had also decided to move on, so we thought do we enlist another bassist or simply use the technology and move forward as a 2 piece band? We decided the latter, which in hindsight has made a lot of sense. In actual fact, this is kinda full circle for us as Paul & I when we started Contrive, our very 1st live gig back in October 2000 we performed as a ‘2 piece’ due to struggling to find a fitting bass player. Rehearsals of the new tracks in this current line up phase has been going amazingly well, you can expect to see us on the road later this year. I think this record will surprise & hopefully please some of you? Thanks again for your patience can & support.
The release date of Slow Dissolve will be announced soon. Stay tuned to the band’s official Facebook page for more details: www.facebook.com/CONTRIVEofficial
Contrive’s second studio album The Internal Dialogue was released in 2010, and was mixed by Mr. Devin Townsend. Contrive have supported the likes of Opeth, Machine Head and Devin Townsend.
