Sydonia fans, today you may weep. The band has officially announced they are no more.

After 20 years of being active in the Australian music scene, the Melbourne four-piece went to Facebook today to share the unfortunate news. Read on below for the band’s full statement:

Hey Glovers,

Today we are here to sadly announce that Sydonia is from today, no more. It has not been an easy decision to make amongst ourselves, Sydonia has been a huge part of our lives – especially those of us who have been in the band from the very start.

We’d like to personally thank everybody for their unending support over the years, to all the bands we’ve toured with (and there has been a ton), Tim Price and Pricewar Music, and ESPECIALLY our families. We’d also like to thank our past members Sam Haycroft and Eric Simon for their contribution to our story.

We will all continue to play music via our other bands and projects, so we’re sure that we will catch up with some of you in the future.

So long and thanks for all the beers.
Sydonia

Whilst the details are to why this decision was made are scarce, the former members of Sydonia have assured their fans that they will continue to play music (though not necessarily that of Sydonia’s) “via [their] other bands and projects”.

To date, Sydonia had released five EPs (Sojourn, Id Say No, Subordinate, (Man)iupulate, and Waiting For Worlds That Don’t Exist) and two studio albums (2006’s Given To Destroyers & 2014’s Reality Kicks). The band were in the process of writing their third and as-yet-untitled studio album, having released their first single for it, “Eyes of Sand”, in July of last year. It appears the fate of the tentative third album remains uncertain for now. It’s unclear at this stage whether the band will go ahead and finish the album, or release it as is; or whether we will just never hear from what could have been with the final product.

What is clear is that this is a sad day for Australian music, with one of our countries longest lasting acts hanging up their instruments for good.

We here at Metal Obsession thank Sydonia for their music and for their contribution to the Australian metal and rock music scenes.
