News : Enviktas have unleashed their new single “Denali” and it is in a word, ‘exalted’

By on November 3, 2016

Newcastle’s Enviktas have been at this since 2010, and following the release of their 2014 self-titled EP (which received critical acclaim), from 2015 onwards, they have been busy with the creation of their debut full-length album, Mantra. Come November 2016, we are now getting our first slice of the ambitious and resplendent effort the quartet have put together.

Taken from their forthcoming album, their brand new single “Denali” premiered yesterday on Heavy Mag Australia. Featuring the guest vocal talents of none other than Sakis Tolis of Greek extreme metal pioneers, Rotting Christ, as well as guest drums from Robin Stone of Norse and Gods of Eden, “Denali” is a multi-layered and complex track, textured by many aspects that bloom and wilt at every turn. Every note on “Denali” bleeds with passion, strength, and emotional weight. The drowning, melancholic riff that comes courtesy of guitarist Jordan Watts excels “Denali” to another level that is only augmented by the haunting, pained verses of Sakis Tolis. Stone’s drums ring out with complex and interesting time signatures, and the resonance behind the shrill atmosphere that accompanies every bass line only serves to heighten the impact of the lyrics.

Telling a story of a lone wolf high in the mountains, as explained in their presser, it aims to convey the “strength, solidarity, and solitude” behind the wolf’s eyes. It does this via the forward-moving flow of the music, as well as the measure of desperation and that fight for survival in harsh conditions that Jaxon Ireland‘s vocals bring forth. With Kaden Green‘s guitars reiterating those harsh climates, the folkish tones that layer the music, along with the clear sense of self that comes with their musical presentation, has cemented Enviktas as a band to watch this year. They have released an excellent first single with tight, sharp production.

The origin behind the name “Denali” is also quite fascinating. Check out what guitarist and co-founder Jordan Watts had to say about it over at Heavy Mag!

We at Metal Obsession can’t wait to see what the rest of Mantra brings when it is released some time next year.
