News : Cliff Williams, bassist of AC/DC retires
After 39 years, Cliff Williams, bassist for one of Australia’s most prolific hard rock bands, AC/DC, has announced his retirement. Williams performed his final show on September 20th with AC/DC in Philadelphia, USA.
Williams states in the video below:
It’s time for me to step out, that’s all.
William went on to say his decision had nothing to do with certain issues that plagued the band in recent times. Those being former drummer, Phil Rudd being imprisoned for threatening to kill someone, Malcolm Young‘s onset of dementia and the recent replacement of long time vocalist, Brian Johnson (who was ordered to stop touring or risk losing his hearing), and who was eventually replaced by Guns N’ Roses frontman, Axl Rose.
Williams says:
“Not because we’ve lost Mal, Phil or Brian. Everything changes. When Bon died, it changed then.”
“It’s just, I’m ready to get off the road and do what I do in between tours. I know what I’m going to do. It’s just my time.”
“I need family time now, just chill out and not do this. I’m all good – I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
Williams continued: “It’s been a hell of a tour. It’s been great. The fans’ support has been brilliant”.
Looks like Williams will set out to do what he’s been wanting to do for some time. That is, to spend time with his family and chill out.
AC/DC’s future as a band is certainly unclear at the moment, but for those fortunate enough to see the band on their recent ‘Rock or Bust’ world tour will no doubt commend Williams – and the entire band – for an amazing tour.
