News : Hidden Intent Announce Single Launch of “Apocalypse Now” & Unveil EP Cover Art
Adelaide based thrashers, Hidden Intent, have been quite busy of late. Amidst their current Australia tour as well as the release of their last single “Addicted To Thrash” a few months back, the trio are all hands on deck.
With that, the band will soon be following up with the release of their brand new single, “Apocalypse Now” (which will be launched this Saturday, June 25 at The Crown & Anchor Hotel, Adelaide). They further shared the EP cover art. Sharing the news a couple days back on their Facebook page, Metal Obsession were offered the chance to review the two new songs off the EP – single “Apocalypse Now” and demo track “Petrified” – before their release.
Read our review of the two tracks from the EP below before their release and the “Apocalypse Now” single launch this Saturday!
“Apocalypse Now” opens with a slow fade in coupled with the rolling beat of a bass, guitar and drum line firing in unison. The bass crawls of frontman Chris McEwen are heavily prevalent here, and it adds extra flavour and interest to the mix. The frenetic pace coupled with this mood of unease and downtrodden parts comes to a head at the bridge. The song settles and as it builds, it sees Hidden Intent at their most rhythmic (the one-two punch of guitarist/vocalist Phil Bennett and drummer Paul Lewis comes full circle here from their great intro sequence at the beginning of the song). Bennett’s soloing and riffing (whether fast or melodic) on “Apocalypse Now” is some of the best I’ve heard from him, and his talents are really growing.
The second song “Petrified” actually sounded quite impressive for a demo track, too. Another track from their forthcoming second album (due out early 2017), the song enters with an almost Pantera style groove. “Petrified” sees a bit of a shift from the norm for Hidden Intent here; especially as it isn’t an all-out thrash track like most. Focusing a lot more this time round on the grooves coupled with the hard-edged chorus, this song is all about the riff-worship and the drums.
Don’t miss this Saturday at The Crown & Anchor Hotel in Adelaide (free entry) for the ‘East End Invasion’ when Hidden Intent debut “Apocalypse Now” alongside local acts Alkira and Imminent Psychosis (who are also having their album launch). Furthermore, The Levitation Hex (featuring members of Alchemist and Alarum) will also be joining the fray.
