News : Out of the ashes of Malignant Monster comes Depravity
Malignant Monster called it a day earlier this year, but whilst that was a bitter pill to swallow for Western Australian metal fans – seeing one of the most iconic bands in the scene hanging up the boots after 10+ years of blackened death metal supremacy – all is not lost! Out of the ashes of Malignant Monster rises Depravity, a recently assembled act containing 3/5 of the most recent MM line-up – Jarrod Curley (Guitars) & Lynton Cressford (Guitars) & Louis Rando (Drums) remain united, on a mission to deliver the most dark and foreboding brand of Death Metal that you’ll come across. Depravity’s line-up is rounded out by arguably Perth’s best death metal vocalist in Jamie Kay (The Ritual Aura).
The band have recently released their debut single entitled “Soul Enslaver” and it’s an absolute ripper, but given the pedigree of this band nobody should be surprised. Malignant Monster, Pathogen, The Furor, The Ritual Aura, Inanimacy, The Alchemont, Entrails Eradicated and Gallows for Grace to just name a few – the list of past and present bands associated with Depravity reads like a short list of the best death metal bands to come out of WA in the past 10 years. The word super group gets bandied about a fair bit these days, but this really is as close as you’ll get to a super group from the Perth scene.
Although the band are on the hunt for a Bass Guitarist (interested bassists should apply direct to the band), Depravity seem set for live domination sooner rather than later. Given the quality of “Soul Enslaver” and the class of musicians involved I cant help but expect to see Depravity join fellow WA locals Sanzu & The Ritual Aura as the latest WA export to make some significant waves far beyond sleepy old Perth, and successfully reach a truly global audience.
