News : Soundwave Festival 2016 Officially Cancelled

By on December 17, 2015

So it only came a couple days ago that we shared the news that Soundwave wouldn’t be returning in 2017, and now today has just confirmed next year’s event (which was to kick off in late January) won’t be going ahead either.

Once again returning to Twitter to share the news, show promoter AJ Maddah released the news, quoting “I am devastated to have to announce the cancellation of Soundwave 16”, citing “poor ticket sales” as the reason.

The news arrives off the back of previously unknown issues recently surfacing. No less of which came a few days ago when festival headliner Bring Me The Horizon stated over Twitter that they were awaiting information from Soundwave, and that they weren’t entirely locked in for the tour. This joined L7 pulling out from the festival, unconfirmed venues, and so on.

Soundwave ticket holders are entitled to refunds, with Maddah stressing that The Soundwave Society (TSS) members will also be offered their money back. He has stated that refunds will be from the “point of purchase” and that it “may take a little time” and to be patient and wait for contact from Eventopia.

Soundwave 2016 had been scheduled to take place in Brisbane, Sydney, and finally Melbourne; fronting headliners and other bands including Disturbed, Bring Me The Horizon, The Prodigy, Deftones, NOFX, Killswitch Engage, Ill Niño, and so on.

Beginning life in 2004 in Perth originally as a smaller festival called Gravity Soundwave (as a part of the Gravity Games), as it grew further in popularity, so too did the rest of the festival. Over the years, Soundwave saw bands featured the likes of The Offspring, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot, and Metallica. It seems today, however, marks the end of the festival and Soundwave 2015 being its last ever.

It’s been good, Soundwave.
