News : Suiciety’s Comeback Tour Fast Approaching
As we know, it was announced a couple months back that Melbourne-based alternative-rock band Suiciety have returned after a nigh two decade long hiatus (19 years, to be exact). For anyone who was old enough in the early ’90s to appreciate this band, they were essential listening back then; garnering much praise from fans and media alike, Australia over.
First forming in 1990, over the next six years, Suiciety continued to blossom in the Australian music scene: touring the country, being invited onto Big Day Out, being handpicked to support the likes of Sepultura, Fear Factory, Kreator, Ministry, and more. They also played alongside such Aussie legends as Cosmic Psychos, Tumbleweed, and the Mark of Cain.
To celebrate their return, Suiciety released their long-awaited EP titled Crawling Machine Edition. This EP was actually recorded back in 1996, but was never released after Suiciety suddenly and unexpectedly called it quits.
Crawling Machine Edition is set to have its launch at the Evelyn Hotel, Fitzroy, on Friday October 30, and Friday December 4 at San Remo Hotel. Suiciety will also be performing a run of regional shows, covering Bendigo, Ballarat, and Geelong.
With three of the five original members returning (with a new drummer and bassist under their wing), Suiciety are itching to get back out there. This will be a tour you won’t want to miss.

Having ridden the crest of the almighty powerful Australian alternative-rock wave in the mid 90s, which were days of a very different musical landscape, Melbourne band Suiciety have reformed after a nineteen year hiatus, and are releasing their EP titled Crawling Machine Edition (via indie record label Desert Highways).
Jumping into the Wayback Machine – the mid 90s were rife with long haired lads, flannelette shirts, beanies, Docs, Recovery on ABCTV, Res-ervoir Dogs, Gaslight Records Nude Day, Nose-rings, taping Rage onto VHS, Discmans & Walkmans, and only being able to be browse the few web pages available on the net if no-one was on the phone via the snail-paced dial-up internet riddled with constant drop-outs.
Crawling Machine Edition was actually recorded back in those days – 1996 to be exact, but was never released by the band due to their departure from the scene. The band feel now is the time to do so as they bring back three of the original five piece (with a new drummer and bass player in tow) and get back on the circuit.
Forming in 1990 when Melbourne school mates hooked up over a love of skating and punk/hardcore/metal/rock, discovering a mutual obses-sion of acts like DRI, Faith No More, Black Sabbath etc., Suiciety were a band full of musicians who gleaned from all types of music styles, creat-ing a signature sound of their own. Over the next six years the band rose to fame from humbly jamming in their bedrooms to taking on the live Australian circuit by storm and fuelling the flames by being darlings of the media (especially with the likes of Hard Rock music bible of the day Hot Metal Magazine) with their laidback, down to earth attitude. Drum Media (Syd) described the band in 1995 as ‘mosh pit, housewreckers of the highest order’.
Their rise was ably assisted by being invited onto the bill of the then notoriously cool touring juggernaut Big Day Out, a slot on the ill-fated Alternative Nation and they were handpicked to support Sepultura, The Supersuckers, Kreator, Ministry, Bodycount, Fear Factory, The Tea Party, and played alongside other Australian legends like Tumbleweed, Cosmic Psychos, and the Mark of Cain, to only name a few widen their appeal with that exposure to new fans.
In the age of record labels hungrily gobbling up all the alternative bands post-Grunge/Nirvana explosion, the band had signed to both indie behemoths Shock Records and hard-hitters BMG (Sony) during their career. The band released two albums : Deeper Vision and Primrose Path and in 1994 an EP entitled Cell.
Then suddenly the band called it a day. As time passed, Suiciety fans were saddened to discover they meant it. Leaving the EP behind, the band went about their lives and archived it never expecting to finally release it in October 2015. Ninteeen years exactly down the road. The EP, which was recorded by legendary producer Kalju Tonuma (Killing Joke, The Living End, Crowded House, Hunters & Collec-tors, D4, The Temper Trap, Bodyjar, The Mavis’s), is testament of the hardworking band : well-honed, blistering, and depicts their ability to cross-pollinate from the hard to the sublime with ease and precision. The band are back, with a swag of music that stands the test of time,
and hungry to take over where they left off. But this time with fun be-ing the main driver – after all they proved it all back in the 90s, the pressure is well and truly off and the band invite you along for the ride.
Crawling Machine Edition EP is released through Desert Highways (www.deserthighways.com) and distributed via Rocket Distribution (rocketdistribution.com.au) this October.
