News : Space Bong’s new 14 minute short film/music video is simply awesome
The recent spike in quality Australian music videos is exciting, whether it’s the more artistic side à la Dumbsaint or the more in-your-face style that King Parrot and High Tension have taken. Adelaide’s Space Bong are the latest to release a short film-meets-music video and it’s truly stunning.
Teaming up with Capital Waste Pictures, the video for “Slow Spring” is 14 minutes long but every one is worth watching.
“Clocking in at over fourteen minutes this short film follows a crust punk squad of earth warriors who abduct three powerful businessmen responsible for rapid environmental decay. The prisoners are taken to the South Australian bush and brutally sacrificed in a ritualistic, drug-fuelled offering to mother nature, to right the wrongs caused by the 1%.
With the Do-It-Yourself, gonzo ethos of Space Bong and film-maker, Liam Somerville, the video was filmed in a series of unauthorized, unconventional scenarios that bring a new zenith of authenticity to film clip production. The filming included an ‘alleyway’, ‘secret show’ attended by around 200 people under a major overpass in Adelaide’s inner city, infiltrating the offices of multinational corporations, and a weekend trip to the southern Flinders Ranges under a full moon to conduct a shamanic ritual sacrifice.”
The new album, Deadwood to Worms, is due out October 20th through Art As Catharsis Records
