News : Bane of Winterstorm EP Launch Show Update
Earlier this evening bought the sad news that Melbourne’s Bane of Winterstorm will no longer be performing at what would have been their EP launch for ‘The War of Shadows II: Upon the Throne of Râvnöraak’ next Saturday (September 26) at the Evelyn Hotel. Brisbane melodic death metallers Chronolyth – who would have been the show’s main support – will be taking over the role of headliner. In the wake of this announcement also comes the sad departure of Chris Themelco, the band’s bassist. Having been with Bane of Winterstorm since 2012 during its various incarnations, Chris left on good terms to focus his attentions on his other ventures in Orpheus Omega, Monolith Studios and so on.
Due to extensive personal circumstances, band founder, songwriter, and guitarist, Anthony J. “AJ” Finch made the announcement via the band’s Facebook page earlier tonight:
I must regretfully announce that Bane of Winterstorm has had to pull out of our own EP launch due to some extremely difficult situations occurring recently that have left me unable to mentally fulfill my role on stage. This isn’t a public complaint about my personal life, but rather myself knowing too well that I would be unable to perform to the standard that I hold myself and this band. This does not at all mean that the EP is cancelled, in fact I’m doing my best to ensure that the EP is still released at the end of September. A lot of things are unsure to me at the present time, but I can guarantee that everyone that purchased anything from our stores will receive it.
I must also announce the departure of bassist Chris Themelco. Chris joined in 2012 as a guitarist and has been involved in every line up since, allowing us to progress and shape BoW to what it is today, and what it may be tomorrow. I like to think of Bane of Winterstorm as a band that rushes too quickly around corners, and I like that about it. It often keeps me on my toes and causes me to push myself, but recently I’ve been unable to do so. And that has caused other people to go above and beyond when it comes to their responsibilities and with Chris’ time firmly in Orpheus Omega, it’s time for him to put the bass down and get back to what he loves.
I do apologize for what I feel is a constant spam of our new EP, but I must say that the EP is selling well, and if it continues to sell then I can offer more things to those of you who have ordered. None of the money for these pre-orders goes to the members, it goes directly into the cost of printing the CDs, the shirts, the posters, the cards, the brass seals, the picks. All of it is payed for by you the fans. And I thank all of you who have ordered in the past and present for that. Right now I wish I was able to lead the band in the right direction but I simply am unable to.
Sorry to anyone that was looking forward to seeing us play. There’s almost always a plan for us, though. Almost…
AJ.
Renaming the show ‘Remnants of Melbourne’, Chronolyth will be supported by the original lineup set for the bill (Orpheus Omega, Annihilist and Trigger), with Hollow World filling the vacant spot for the evening.
