News : Newsted and Hardcore Superstar cancel Soundwave Appearance
2014 has been by far the worst year for bands pulling out of Soundwave Festival. As the run of festival dates and sideshow begin this Saturday, two bands have pulled out of the festival over the past day (not to forget Whitechapel and Desperacedios who cancelled on Monday). This makes the total number of bands cancelling this year as 7.
Yesterday, Soundwave head-honcho posted on Twitter that Swedish rock group Hardcore Superstar had threatened to cancel their appearance if they weren’t given a better time slot than 11:30AM on stage 6A. The band were originally scheduled for a 4:00PM time slot before Soundwave released the new timetables for all cities on Monday. Since then, they haven’t had their time changed and they have cancelled their second Australian tour.
Today, ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has posted a brief statement on his Facebook page that the Newsted band will not be performing live in February and March 2014, without going into any detail, or even apologising to the fans. Outside of the festival, Newsted were playing two sidewave shows with thrash titans Testament in Melbourne and Sydney.
AJ Maddah has said he is trying to figure out what is going on with Newsted, and states that his gear has already arrived in Brisbane.
