News : Megadeth pull out of Soundwave Festival
US thrash metallers Megadeth have announced today they will no longer be performing on this years Soundwave Festival tour. Megadeth head honcho, Dave Mustaine posted the following statement on the band’s official Facebook page.
Due to circumstances beyond its control, unfortunately Megadeth has to cancel their Australian dates. Megadeth’s decision is unrelated to the fact that Jason Newsted is performing at Soundwave. Jason and I spoke recently and continue to be friends. – Dave Mustaine
Last week, Jason Newsted’s new band Newsted were removed from the Megadeth sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney at the request of Megadeth‘s management. Whitechapel were then named as the replacement. This weekend, Newsted is confirmed to support west coast thrash metal band Testament in Melbourne and Sydney.
AJ Maddah, overseer of the Soundwave Festival posted via his Twitter feed that there will be no replacement, saying “Mastodon are a worthy headliner for the metal stage and to be honest a bigger band at this point”. Longer sets times will be made available from other bands on the bill.
