News : Separate D.R.I. and D.O.A. Australian tours announced for April/May
The Drunk Promoter has announced east-coast Australian tour dates for two major hardcore punk/thrash bands in late April and early May. One of them featuring Vancouver hardcore-punk pioneers D.O.A., and the other featuring Houston crossover legends D.R.I..
Thrash hardcore legends D.R.I to tour Australia in May. Canadian kings of punk, hockey and beer D.O.A to tour Australia in late April. That’s collectively 68 years of punk rock history!
Considered by many to be one of the founders of hardcore punk music along with influential contemporaries such as Black Flag and The Germs, D.O.A formed in 1978 from the ashes of Vancouver punk rock band The Skulls. In 1981, D.O.A. made the term “hardcore” their own and pushed it into the common vernacular with their legendary album “Hardcore 81” and subsequent tours. An uncompromisingly leftist political stance has stood with the band throughout their long and colourful career actively addressing issues like racism, globalization and freedom of speech. The band has put out several records on Jello Biafra’s Alternative Tentacles label and have even released an album with Jello Biafra called Last Scream Of The Missing Neighbors.
Pioneers of ‘crossover thrash’, notably influential to bands like Suicidal Tendencies and Corrosion of Conformity, D.R.I or Dirty Rotten Imbeciles make their first visit down under this May bringing a seven record deep catalogue of songs to play in front of Australian audiences. For the past 30 years, D.R.I. has been the epitome of the aggressive, hardcore-punk thrash sound that we’ve become familiar with and throughout this time, they’ve been one of the few genuine underground bands to remain true to their pure punk roots. Still actively touring and recording, the only thing that may have changed is that they’re a little older now, but time hasn’t gotten the best of the Dirty Rotten Imbeciles. They’re still thrashing just as hard and just as loud as ever, continuing to overload our senses with the sound that is and will always remain, uniquely D.R.I. This coming May… see you in the Thrash Zone.
The bands will be touring separately, with the D.O.A. tour starting first in late-April, and the D.R.I. tour starting on the 1st of May. Tour dates below:
