Articles : Sabaton – Pär Sundström’s Best Albums of 2013
For the past year and a half Sabaton have been promoting their brand new album, ‘Carolus Rex’. An album based on the Swedish king’s insatiable lust for Europe during the 17th century. The album has taken the band across the globe many times over, performing various headline shows across Europe, United Kingdom, Canada and North America, plus headlining metal festivals; Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Metaltown, plus supporting Iron Maiden in Russia, Germany, America and Sweden.
Earlier this year Sabaton toured Australia for the first time ever supporting Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish.
In late September Sabaton released ‘Swedish Empire Live’, a new live DVD/CD release which features the band’s newest members; Chris Rörland (Nocturnal Rites), Thobbe Englund (Winterlong) and Robban Bäck (Astral Doors).
Editors notes: During the Swedish Empire Live tour drummer, Robban Bäck was temporarily replaced by Snowy Shaw, (Dream Evil, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond) and has now since been permanently replaced by Hannes van Dahl (Evergrey).
‘Swedish Empire Live’ was filmed at Poland’s prestigious Woodstock festival in September of 2012 in front of a whopping 500,000 people.
Sabaton’s entire discography is currently available on multiple formats via Nuclear Blast Records.
Due to his busy tour schedule, Pär felt that he could not give a fair listen to more albums this year. He states, “In the past, I have bought at least one new album every week, but I simply don’t have time to listen to as much music as I once did due to my busy schedule”. Pär was able to briefly take some time out from his busy schedule and share his top albums for 2013 with Metal Obsession.net.
In no particular order…
