News : The Matador heading into the studio to record “Inclinaturum Humani Generis”
Gold Coast band The Matador are one of the few Australian acts that can be sat alongside Cult of Luna, Rosetta, ISIS and the rest of that post-metal family, and boy they do it well. Their 2011 EP Decent into the Maelstrom (which you can now download for free) was an absolutely thrilling debut and hinted at something great to come. The wait since has been hell.
Thankfully, the guys are about to hit the studio. Armed with new vocalist Nathan Wyner, the result will be a two-part opus titled Inclinaturum Humani Generis, with Part I: Destroyer showcasing the “menacing sludginess” that their debut did so well, and Part II: Creator “exploring a more progressive, melodic side”.
Guitarist and principal songwriter Johnny Hourigan explains the idea behind the double release:
“We wanted to follow up Descent with something that was again crushing and heavy, but also allowed us to express a more melodic, even happier sounding Matador. With Nate and also Ryan (Creighton, guitars) joining the band, we have been able to bring our most ambitious ideas to fruition, and there is a renewed energy within the band. We are extremely proud of the songs we have written and can’t wait for everyone else to hear them.”
Expect both parts before the end of the year, with Nik Carpenter (ROME, ex-Devolved) as producer/engineer and Cult Of Luna‘s Magnus Lindberg handling the mixing and mastering.
