News : The Atomic Bitchwax headlining Doomsday Festival 2012

By on August 16, 2012

Press release:

666 Entertainment presents Doomsday Festival – an annual Australian live music festival this October. For the first time, Doomsday will be visiting our Kiwi cousins with two shows in Auckland (9th) and Wellington (10th), as well as Melbourne (11th & 14th), Sydney (12th) and Canberra (13th).

Headlining Doomsday 2012 will be special international guests (and first-time Australian tourists) – THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX.

Oozing out of New Jersey, Chris Kosnik, Finn Ryan and Bob Pantella are The Atomic Bitchwax. The trio began their musical careers way back in the mid-‘90s in separate bands: Monster Magnet, Godspeed and Core. Gathering a solid reputation as one of the masters of the riff, combining their influences of psych rock, ‘70s rock and stoner, the band have released five full length albums, TAB-1, 2, 3, 4 and The Local Fuzz, plus a couple of EPs, Spit Blood and Boxriff and a DVD featuring a live show filmed in Seattle.

The Atomic Bitchwax are fired up after their recent European tour (taking in festivals such as France’s legendary Hellfest) and ready to stun Australasian audiences. The band played with Kyuss Lives, The Sword and Karma To Burn in late 2011 along with an appearance at internationally renowned Dutch stoner/doom fest, Roadburn, during their earlier European tour with label-mates, NAAM and Quest for Fire.

Doomsday Festival debuted in 2009 and primarily showcases a selection of Australia’s finest sludge, doom metal, psychedelic, stoner, post-rock and experimental bands. In 2010 Doomsday featured stoner-rock merchants, San Franciscan trio, ACID KING and last year, the heavyweight quartet, COUGH, hailing from Richmond, Virginia, blew Australian audiences’ minds with their doom-laden sludge.

“…imagine a combination of fuzzed out rock guitars with traces of psychedelic rock, hard rock, stoner rock and even a touch of the blues with an emphasis on memorable riffs and impressive solos.” Justin Donnelly, www.blistering.com

“The Atomic Bitchwax’s latest release, The Local Fuzz, clocks in at just over 42 minutes. It’s riff after riff after motherfucking riff… and then more riffs… and just when you think there surely couldn’t be more riffs, out come some more. It’s quite impressive. It’s bluesy, funky, ‘70s inspired psychedelic rock n roll filled with shitloads of solos and a great rhythm section.” Long Gone Loser

If you’re a fan of music of the heavy and fuzzed-out kind, don’t miss the chance to get to one of the Doomsday Festival dates in October.
