News : Toehider’s Lachlan Barclay releases EP of video game themes

By on July 26, 2012

“Remember those cool games in the 80’s where you shot everything in sight? Those were the best games. The music was sometimes pretty cool too – and made even better when bought into the present with some MASSIVE GUITARS.”

The title of the post is pretty much all you need to know. Lachlan Barclay, guitarist in the very rad Toehider, has just released an EP of classic video game theme songs, and it’s brilliant. There’s Commander Keen, Doom 2, and even a seven minute Double Dragon medley. It’s a free download over at his Bandcamp page, where you can also listen to and grab his 2011 album The Angry Video Game Nerd Collection.

Speaking of Toehider and free things and covers, they have actually just released something for free too. Over on their Bandcamp page is Children of the Sun Part 2: Another Collection of Under-appreciated Cartoon Themes from the 80’s and 90’s. With everything from Trap Door to Arthur to the Powerpuff Girls, it brings back some great memories.
