Starting off at 13-14 years old as Men Among Wolves, Geelong death metallers Athenas Wake have sure progressed musically over the past few years; from playing breakdowns in their drummers basement all day long, to their current groundbreaking modern death metal sound. The band head into the studio in July to record their debut EP, which although it mainly sticks to their modern death metal sound, it has been described as very European with a lot of black metal influence. At a Sunday night band practice at Pan Studios, Metal Obsession’s Patrick Emmett rocked up to check out their new material (which is fantastic) and have a chat about the new EP, what’s next for the band, and stupid discussions about the Human Centipede.
