Album Reviews : Disturbed – Asylum
Chicago metal heavy weights Disturbed have been at it for a decade and I can see no better way to celebrate this than their latest offering Asylum. Asylum is the follow up to their 2008 release Indestructible and it sure does take disturbed to a new level.
The album is classic Disturbed with all the elements that create that unique sound that is instantly recognizable, but this isn’t to say the band are just putting out the same record all over again; far from it. Disturbed are a band that have created their own sound and stuck with it, while still pushing their musical boundaries with each and every record.
Asylum does just that. It gives the fans what they want to hear and then some. To pick an example, ‘Another Way to Die’ gives us classic Draiman vocals with a twist because there are new elements that have been melded into the song that take it to a new level. The topical matter of the album gives another level to the music and also ties into that usual Disturbed sound. Disturbed create music that matters with ‘Another Way to Die’ being about global warming and other songs on the album have just as much power and importance. This diversity comes from the bands choice to produce the record themselves giving them the freedom to create an album which is truly a Disturbed album.
Donegan’s riffs and solos on the album are awesome; giving the listeners a wide variety of sounds to keep up the pace of the album. But it’s not just the vocals and guitar work that makes this album excellent because Wengren’s drums and Moyer’s bass give so much to the album. The band’s sound is truly created by the mix of all four members. Songs like ‘The Infection’ and ‘Warrior’ are proof of their power, while tracks like ‘My Child’ show just how diverse Disturbed’s impact really is.
This album is a killer; it showcases Disturbed as the great band that they are and it gives the fans something to sink their teeth into. These 12 ripping songs will get heads banging and blood pumping. It is truly the Disturbed we all wanted to hear. 9/10
