News : Tasmanian Government offers 'Amplified' grants

By on March 10, 2010

Tasmania’s Amplified 2010 conference and showcases has announced a showcasing grant of up to $3,000, and the chance to be included on the “Amplified” double CD compilation. Amplified is sponsored by the State Government through Arts Tasmania by arts@work to develop the state’s contemporary music industry through a week of conferences, workshops and performances September 1 to 5.

The announcements were made at a media event at Tommy Gun Records in Hobart by band manager Ifan Thomas and Joe Nuttall from Enola Fall.

This is the fifth edition of Amplified and it’s fantastic to see it grow every year and deliver substantial outcomes for Tasmanian musicians,” Thomas said.

Nuttall said that Enola Fall’s Amplified showcase before major national industry powerbrokers proved fruitful. “As a result, we’ve secured distribution through MGM and one of our tracks will be featured on a companion release with the next John Butler Trio album,” he said.

The CD will be given free to the public, to record companies and publishers and distributed through the Australian Music Regional Airplay Project to radio stations across the country. Bands wishing to submit a song for possible inclusion on the CD should send a completed nomination form available at www.arts.tas.gov.au/amplified along with a high quality recording to arts@work by 15 April.

Grant applications close on 1 April. The Application Tool Kit for the Showcasing Grant round is at www.arts.tas.gov.au/amplified

The full Amplified 2010 program will be launched in July.
