News : Se Bon Ki Ra to donate BDO proceeds to Haiti appeal
Adelaide metallers Se Bon Ki Ra have announced to pledge a portion of the bands merch sales at Adelaide’s Big Day Out towards the Haiti earthquake disater appeal.
Press Release:
“The band’s name is a Haitian proverb that means ‘good is rare’. The group’s vocalist Chad Cosgrove says “we have borrowed our name from Haitian culture and considering the unbelievable hardship, huge loss of lives and countless injuries that the country is experiencing at the moment, we thought it was only right for us to get behind the aid effort somehow.”Organisers of the Adelaide Big Day Out are supportive of the band’s efforts to find ways of using their performance at the event on 29 January to lend support to the cause.
As a local artist on the line up for the Adelaide Big Day Out, Se Bon Ki Ra event T-shirts will be available for $40 from the official merchandise tent. The band will donate 25 percent of sale proceeds to the Haitian appeal. Cosgrove says “We haven’t decided yet which aid group we will put the money into, but we are going to make sure its one with a good reputation and a strong presence in Haiti.”
The band implores attendees of the event to get behind the current fund raising campaigns and dig deep to show the Australian music festival going public attitude to assisting people in need. Cosgrove says “When you’re in the mosh pit and going off to one of your favourite bands and someone falls over or something, there’s so much love and care from everyone around to make sure that person gets back on their feet safely and keeps on moshing. I want to see that same love shared with the people in Haiti. The best way for us to do that from a distance is by digging into our pockets.”
“Buying one of our T-shirts at the Big Day Out is only a small way to be part of supporting the Haiti aid appeals. Get out there and choose an aid organisation and put down whatever you can, it all helps.”
For proud members of an often misunderstood and misrepresented musical genre, the band demonstrates a high level of social conscience “We don’t feel it’s ok to use a name that comes from their language and culture and not give something back at a time like this”.
Se Bon Ki Ra will appear on the Hot Produce stage at 6.15pm at the Adelaide Big Day Out, Wayville Showgrounds, Friday 29 January 2010. www.sebonkira.com“
