Bury Your Dead’s first Australian show exploded with the brutal sounds of new band on the track, In Trenches. The 3 guys haven’t ever been on tour before and from what I heard they haven’t been playing in front of crowds for long, but watch out for they are a force to be reckoned with. They brought heavy riffs, play a professional and tight set of songs all while producing high energy and an entertaining performance. They have an EP currently released with two tracks, make sure you go to their Myspace and pickup a copy.  Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the next band to hit the stage.

I usually take as many photos as I can of each band, but in relation to the Seduction….I can safely say I was not swooned. I couldn’t find myself connecting to this band and I believe the crowd was with me…it’s never good when you’re at a metal gig and the crowd just claps as you finish…. When I’m on stage I like to hear the screams of women having orgasms, the brutal hoot of the guys in the audience and the squeals of dying baby seals.

Not what was experienced for this band, and I think they knew they weren’t hitting it off. When the lead singer continues to apologize and looking at his watch it’s a bit of a tell tail sign. They have good ideas, and I know they were putting in a lot of hard work….But it sounded something close to…Imagine If you were to take a guitar, drums, bass, a vocalist without range, added some distortion pedals and shook it all up in a tin can…You would have an idea of what I’m talking about.

Thankfully Michael Crafter, hardcore whore extraordinaire answered our prayers for rapture. His new band Confession has come on strong, fast and loud.  it was a relief to hear well constructed, brutal, technically sound hardcore. I wouldn’t expect any less from these guys they put on one hell of a show. You could really see it in their faces that they are living their element. Confession has the ability to pump up a crowd, no longer were feet shuffling on the floor, bodies were rolling and fists were flying this is what I came for.

You could feel the exchange of energies between the audience and band, it was powerful! I believe that Confession have an album being released through Resist Records/Shock on October 11, this band now their shit I urge you to pickup a copy. After my last cigarette (yes it’s true, cold turkey as well) and a quick chat with James the sound guy I made my way to as close to the stage I could get.

The crowd had become dense and it wasn’t easy getting in to a position that was sound for me and my camera, I was actually a little bummed that I wasn’t able to let loose and throw fists with the rest of the hardcore kids.

You could tell these guys were the real deal, it’s as though a super force was being bestowed upon us from the stage above. Not sure if to many people are aware but Bury Your Dead have gone through about 8 different members over their 4 plus years of touring, recently cheated death due to a unfortunate van rolling accident, but despite all this they play a killer set. You can tell these guys love their work as they jump around the stage, weapons in hand assaulting the crowd with in your face drop D goodness.

The crowd responded with huge energy in the form of mosh pits complete with token broken nose guy in tennis shorts and windmills. My sort of gig and a good start to the first leg of their Australian tour.
