THE HAUNTED
w/ Double Dragon
The Hi-Fi Bar – Melbourne, 11th November, 2008.
~~~~~~~~~Photos coming soon~~~~~~~~~~
Sweden’s The Haunted rolled into Melbourne this week for a show at the Hi Fi bar. Coming along for the ride was Adelaide’s Double Dragon, who got the support slow for all shows.
With doors opening at 8, there was quite a wait before Double Dragon came on the stage at 9:15. Quite unnecessary really, but what can ya do? Double Dragon played an energetic set of songs unknown to me, but was enjoyable none the less, and they got a decent reception from the small, but slowly filling crowd. It was nice to see a support band where you weren’t checking your watch every 5 minutes wanting it to be over. By the time I did check my watch, they were already on the last song of their 45 minute set.
The mezzane at the Hi Fi was blocked off, which made me wonder how few tickets had actually been sold? The set change entertainment came in the form of a bi-lingual roadie who was out to impress the crowd with his mic checks in multiple languages, and the odd little saying just to show off. Highlight of the night? He was up there.. maybe next time he can warm the crowd up before Double Dragon take the stage!
By the time 10:30 came around and the band was proving to be fashionably late, the floor of the hi fi was packed, and already starting to get sweaty – before The Haunted had even taken the stage. When the guys finally took the stage, the crowd was raring to go, especially in the cramped but energetic pit.
The sound was especially good for the Hi Fi, with the muddy sound we’ve come to expect from there, not present – which was nice for a change. The band seemed comfortable in front of the small crowd, throwing in jokes about black metal fans. After my 3 songs from the pit were up, and a few songs from the top of the stairs to the balcony for more photos, my night was to come to an early end, with bed urgently calling me. My short stay at The Haunted made me eager to check them out on their next tour..
