Album Reviews : Nevetherym – Rendezvous EP
Take one folk band, mix with one doomy goth band and stir a little. Out comes a progressive thinking band by the name of NEVETHERYM. Hailing from the Central Coast of NSW, Australia, the bands debut release titled ‘Rendezvous’ offers something a little different to the norm on the Australian scene.
The biggest highlight of the recording is without doubt its folky violin melodies. Often taking the listeners focus, it works beautifully within the bands progressive doom sound. Mid-paced chugging guitars keep the heaviness within each track; however this is often inter cut with slower melodic passages which also works well.
The one issue I hold over the EP is the vocals. The combination of growling and clean vocals can work great (see Opeth) however I feel Nevetherym have missed out on nailing the clean vocals. They sound too dreary and held back within. On the other hand, i’m a fan of the growling which is powerful and attention grabbing.
Well worth a listen. 6.5/10
